The two caveats that Fisher offered in his post – first, that survey respondents might be lying about their racial views, and second, that the survey data are from different years, depending on the country – only scratch the surface of what is basically a crime against social science perpetrated in broad daylight.

I hope a lot of you didn’t take this ‘tolerance map’ too seriously when it showed up on your Facebook newsfeed.

People can be lying in any survey, and a certain percentage of respondents probably are. However it is ridicules to discredit a survey by saying people could be lying but offering absolutely no evidence that they are doing so.

The issue of the data being from different years seems pretty typical from what I’ve seen in worldwide polls.Not every nation polls its population on every issue every year.

I’m not saying that I believe this graphic is totally accurate, what I am saying is that the criticism offered here is paltry to say the best.

I think we have a natural sense of morality. This stems from humans evolving from community animals. Community animals rely on members of the pack to behave in a manor that enhances the wellbeing of the pack. Individual pack members that work well with other pack members in activities such as hunting, defending the pack and raising offspring, get the opportunity to breed and pass along their ‘good’ genes. On the other hand individuals that are anti-social, overly aggressive, or otherwise harmful to the wellbeing of the pack are driven off or killed and do not get a chance to pass along their ‘bad’ genes. Millions of years of this process has given us an instinct to be good community members. We call this instinct our conscience.

Now we take all this inherent moral baggage we have ingrained in us and we form societies. This moral baggage then gets codified in our laws and our religions.

I do not have the right to marry who I want even if I am heterosexual. I cannot marry a person who is underage and I cannot marry more than one woman. In my opinion same sex marriage should be legalized on a federal level.

I’m not sure what being legally recognized as a male gets me, except having to register for Selective Service and possibly be drafted in the event of a war, yay me…

Some women do get slut shamed in rape cases but some men do get falsely accused of rape. I just saw a post that said, “I need Feminism No means No but sometimes Yes doesn’t mean Yes.” If a woman consents and a couple has sex, then later the woman says it was rape, where does the guy go to get his reputation back? Here’s an article about a guy who was cyber stalked by his ex-girlfriend. He was a teacher and she falsely accused him of being a pedophile. Even though he won a court case against her, his career as a teacher is over.

Regarding homo/trans phobic, I’d say while many Christians qualify, they are certainly not unique or the worst. In Muslim countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia homosexuality is against the law and punishable by imprisonment, corporal punishment and occasionally execution.

I know you said you are not going to speak for other countries, but I will. Using Saudi Arabia again as an example, women there do not have the right to drive or even to go out in public unless escorted by a man. That is oppression.

Certainly white men have wreaked a lot of havoc throughout history, but they are also responsible for many of our advances in medicine, technology, industry, art, science, literature, law, agriculture, and many other endeavors. If you are going to criticize the bad, you should at least acknowledge the good.

In essence this is saying that if there is a country that has been devastated by say a tsunami and thousands of people are injured and dying, if one fool burns our flag, those thousands of devastated people be damned, because of the actions of that one person you can all die.

To those people who do get all butt hurt over these things, I would tell them to celebrate the day however they choose and don’t worry about how other people choose to spend the day.

Firstly, don’t trivialize people’s feelings about an issue by saying they’re, “butt hurt.”

And secondly, the customs you were describing, are again, perpetuated and distorted by white people. White people do not have any right to think Cinco de Mayo is a day to get drunk while ignoring the context and impact they have had upon Mexican culture.

So don’t get butt hurt when I tell you to fuck off because you have no place in telling people how to feel about their culture.

I don’t see him as either of those two extremes.

I think it is very unfortunate for Jahar that he had an older brother who became radicalized and convinced him to take part in the Boston Marathon bombing. My guess based on everything I have read about his life is that on his own Jahar would have grown up and led a normal life. Now due his older brothers influence, he has killed innocent people.

I don’t believe in capital punishment therefore I believe that once he is found guilty, Jahar should spend the rest of his life in prison. However he will in all likelihood be sentenced to death.

We are all responsible for our own actions, and while as I said it is unfortunate that he had an older brother, Jahar is an adult and he is responsible for everything he did.
